Getting Down With Language Arts!

Greetings Grade 1's & Parents/Guardians,
Read to Succeed!

As you are aware, literacy programs are an essential tool to develop your child's reading and writing comprehension skills. This week, we will be beginning our unit on narrative writing (fun!). I have posted three of my favourite Internet links that I believe will be beneficial to your learning and expansion of reading and writing comprehension.

The first website is called "Kids Zone"; this website provides alphabet and phonics recognition games to aid your child's writing skills.
  • TASK: Under Alphabet and Phonics, click on "Alphabet Recognition Games" and choose one of the three games to play with your parents. With your parents, comment on which game you chose and what you liked about it.

The second website is called "Dosity"; this website offers printable worksheets, games and activities related to phonics, reading and writing skills, alphabet, vocabulary, grammar, and spelling.
  • TASK: Under Phonics, click on "see more Phonics". Scroll down to the very bottom and work on the "an" and "ar" worksheets. Please write 3 more words for each family of words - "an" and "ar".

The final website I wish to share is called "Scholastic"; this website offers educational games that include some of your child's favourite characters, such as Clifford and Emily Elizabeth. This website will help build your child`s early reading skills as well as enhancing their spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation.
  • TASK: Under Language Arts 1-2, click on "Clifford Interactive Storyboards" and choose one of the four stories to read with your parents. What was the story about? What was your favourite part?

I urge both parents and my grade 1's to explore these three fun and education websites. Happy Spelling!
