Our Grade 1 class has begun the unit on Number Sense and Numeration. As part of the Grade 1 Mathematics curriculum, students will learn about the concept of time and be able to read analogue clocks to identify time in everyday settings. I have provided a useful website which assists to cover the following curriculum expectation:
B.1.7 Read demonstration digital and analogue clocks, and use them to identify benchmark times and to tell and write time to the hour and half-hour in everyday settings.
PARENTS: What this means is that by the end of grade one, your child will be able to read and understand time, and be able to write time to the hour (:00) and to the half-hour (:30). Also, your child will be to develop a sense of time and be able to tell you at what time during the day (morning, noon, and night) certain activities take place.
In order to help students explore and understand the concept of time, please visit IXL Math (1) where you and your child can play an educational game that will help your child become familiar with reading and understanding time as represented both on digital and analogue clocks.
Students will also be learning how to identify benchmark times throughout the day, e.g., would a bedtime story be read to you at 3:00 or 9:00? IXL Math (2) will help you and your child understand the concept of time in relation to everyday events.
In addition, this Internet site provides audio playback to the questions they pose. This is a great way for students to not only have the questions read aloud but to also complete these games on their own.
TASK: Try and answer all the problems correctly in the shortest amount of time. Record the time it took, the total number of correct problems, and your SmartScore. Also, have your parents help you to describe the strategy you used to answer the questions correctly.
Time is ticking Grade 1's. Enjoy learning while playing these educational games!
Tick, tick, tick, tock.
What time is it on the clock?
